Active exploitation of Ivanti Connect Secure flaws and a remote-root Linux kernel vulnerability lead this edition.

Cybersecurity8 items

Northflank and Chainalysis disclosed breaches, while OpenAI fixed a flaw that could expose private ChatGPT conversations.

Vulnerabilities

Critical Linux kernel flaw enables remote root attacks on MPTCP servers

Anthropic researchers developed an exploit for a critical Linux kernel vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to execute commands remotely as root on servers running Multipath TCP listeners.

Why it matters: The affected configuration exposes servers to full compromise without credentials, making identification of exposed MPTCP listeners a priority.

Breaches & attacks

Chainalysis discloses breach exposing customer identity data

Chainalysis said attackers used “offensive agentic techniques” to access internal systems and tools, exposing customer names, email addresses, user IDs and organizational roles. The company said investigation content, authentication credentials and session tokens were not accessed.

Why it matters: Exposed identity and role information could support targeted phishing, although Chainalysis says more sensitive investigation and authentication data was unaffected.

Vulnerabilities

OpenAI fixes ChatGPT share-link flaw that could expose private conversations

Parameter researchers showed that a malicious ChatGPT share link could execute attacker code in a logged-in user's session and read private conversations. OpenAI fixed the flaw eight days after its October 18 report and rated it P1, its most serious category.

Why it matters: The finding demonstrates how opening a shared conversation could cross account privacy boundaries without requiring stolen credentials.

Threat research

VOLTA infostealer uses language models to rank victims' valuable assets

Cisco Talos described VOLTA, a self-deleting infostealer that steals credentials, sessions and cryptocurrency wallets. It then uses large language models to profile victims and prioritize their most valuable assets.

Why it matters: The research shows attackers using AI to prioritize stolen data, extending automation beyond initial credential theft.

Vulnerabilities

TeamViewer fixes flaw allowing controlled hosts to attack connecting computers

TeamViewer fixed a vulnerability that lets a malicious or compromised remote host attack the viewer computer connecting to control it. Exploitation can crash the viewer's TeamViewer application and, depending on the platform, may allow code execution.

Why it matters: Administrators connecting to untrusted or compromised machines could expose their own computers through the remote-support session.
